For owners
Plan, seats, and billing
What the plan includes, how seats count, and what happens when you cancel.
snug hosting is one plan: $29.99 a month for one snug server with 50 seats and 25 GB of storage, in the United States or Europe. It covers the machine, nightly backups, and updates. Every server you pay for renews on one monthly bill, paid by one card.
What everyone on the server gets
Every feature is included, for everyone with an account, and nobody pays extra:
- screen sharing up to 4K at 60 fps, with several screens shared at once
- files up to 1 GB each, and pictures up to 8 MB
- messages up to 8,000 characters
- custom emoji, with no limit on how many
- an address on snug.chat, or a domain of your own
There are no ads. Everything the server keeps counts toward its 25 GB, files and custom emoji included. Backups don't. Storage counts a GB as 1 billion bytes.
How seats count
A seat is one person's account on the server, online or not. An account holds one seat however many devices it uses. Bots and integrations hold none. How many people are online at once is never limited.
Deactivating or deleting an account frees its seat. A ban keeps it, because unbanning brings the same account back. When all 50 seats are taken, the next new person is refused with "All 50 seats on this snug server are taken. Ask an admin to free one." People who already have an account still get in on any device.
Admins see the count under Settings > Admin > People, and your server's Overview in snug hosting shows it too. Keep a seat free covers what admins see and how they free one.
Read your bill
Billing opens with the date and total of your next bill. Below that is one line per server with its price, its friends' credit, and what your card pays. Manage card and invoices opens Stripe, where you change the card and download invoices.
If snug gave you a free server
A free server shows Free until and the date its free time ends, on your servers and in Billing. One with no end date says Free and stays free. You get an email a week before the end.
To keep it running, open Billing and choose Keep it after on its line. It joins your bill at $29.99 a month when the free time ends, and Undo takes that back until then. Without a running bill, Stripe saves your card and charges nothing yet. The first charge counts as a first payment, with the same seven-day refund.
A free server nobody kept pauses at its end, with its data kept. Add to my bill starts it again.
Add another server
snug hosting isn't taking new customers yet, but an account that already has a snug server can add more.
- On Servers, choose Add a snug server.
- Choose a Server location and type a Server name.
- Check the address under Address at snug.chat. It takes 3 to 32 lowercase letters, numbers, or dashes, starting with a letter.
- Check Due today and choose Add to my bill.
With a bill running, today's charge covers the days until it renews. After that the server renews with the others at $29.99 a month. If your bank asks you to confirm, or the card is declined, finish on Stripe's page. The server joins the bill once that payment goes through. One bill holds up to 20 servers.
With no bill yet, as with only a free server, the button says Continue to payment and you pay the first month in Stripe Checkout.
Let friends chip in
Each paid server on your bill has a chip-in link under Billing. Copy it and post it where your friends will see it. The link shows the server's name and its credit, and it doesn't let anyone in. A free server has no chip-in link.
A friend who opens it signs in with their email first; with no account yet, the link makes one. They choose an amount from $1 to $1,000 and pay with Stripe. Their money pays only that server's line on the next bill, and whatever's left carries to the months after. It never pays for another server, and your card pays the rest. Chipping in doesn't make anyone a member or an admin.
Replace gives a server a new link and stops the old one. Ending hosting doesn't refund what friends paid; a friend asks for unused credit back under the refund policy.
Get a refund in your first seven days
There's no trial. Within seven days of a server's first payment, choose End hosting on its line in Billing, then End hosting and refund. The server stops now and comes off your bill. That first payment goes back in full to the original payment method. A server you added to a running bill has its own first payment: the charge for the days until the bill renewed.
You get this refund once per account and once per card, so a new account paying with the same card gets none. Renewals aren't refunded. If a server's setup fails, or isn't finished after two hours, it comes off your bill and you get its first payment back in full. That refund doesn't use your seven-day one.
Cancel hosting
After the first seven days, choose End hosting on the server's line. The server runs until the end of the time you've paid for, then stops and comes off your bill. That time isn't refunded. Until then, Keep hosting puts it back on the bill with nothing charged.
To start a cancelled server again, choose Start hosting again in Billing. With a bill running, the page shows Due today before your card is charged. With no bill, you pay in Stripe Checkout.
If a payment fails
A declined renewal pauses every server on the bill, because they share it. Friends can't connect, and nothing is deleted. Billing says your last payment didn't go through. Update the card under Manage card and invoices. Hosting resumes once the bill is paid.
What happens to your data
A paused server keeps its data. When hosting ends, snug keeps the server's data for 90 days, then deletes it. Write to snug hosting support for a full export or for earlier deletion, at any time. Admins can also export a channel's older messages themselves.
Run snug yourself instead
A $99.99 lifetime license, paid once, runs one snug server on a Linux machine you bring, with no seat limit and every future update. Set up your own server covers it.
