Find messages, channels, people, and files

Link to a channel or message, dig up a shared file, or reach someone who's away.

Point someone to a channel

Type # in a message and choose a channel. The reference keeps up if the channel is renamed. Anyone who selects it goes straight there, as long as they already have access.

Private channels stay private. A reference never lets someone through a door they could not open themselves.

Share an exact message

Open a message's actions and choose copy message link. Send that link to someone from the same snug. When they open it, snug takes them to the channel and highlights the message, even when it is older than the messages they first see.

The link uses the same channel access rules as the rest of snug. If the message was deleted, the channel opens at its latest messages instead.

Find a file someone shared

Select the plus beside the message field, then choose from snug. Search by filename, channel, or tag. The search covers every channel you can read.

Open a row to inspect the file, or choose attach to add it to your draft. snug keeps it beside your draft until you send or remove it. If the file came from another channel, snug makes a copy for the current channel so everyone there can open it.

The attachment menu beside the message field offers an upload or a file already shared in snug.

A file belongs to the channel it was shared in, so only people who can read that channel can open it. If the uploader or an admin removes one, old messages keep its name, but the file no longer opens.

See what you missed

Select the clock in the conversation header to open activity, the record of who joined, who left, and what changed since this device connected. Choose the current channel to see only its voice comings and goings. Moderation entries appear only when your own role could take the same action.

The highlighted clock in the conversation header opens recent activity.

Admins can review older history under Settings > Admin > Activity. Filter it by what happened or by person, or jump to a date.

Find someone who's away

Open the faces near the bottom of the sidebar and type a name. People who are online appear first; open away to browse everyone else.

The people list's expanded away section shows Bob and Charlie.
